Detroit: A Home for Makers
On view through Thursday, October 9, 2025
Salonnière Headquarters
311 E Grand River Ave, Detroit, MI 48226
Curated by Juana Williams, Detroit: A Home for Makers celebrates the artists who have chosen this city as their creative foundation, whether born from its soil or drawn by its magnetic pull toward possibility. This exhibition spotlights the diverse voices and visions of artists who are actively shaping Detroit’s cultural identity through visual, material, and conceptual practices.
In showcasing Detroit as both a place of origin and arrival, the exhibition honors artists who were born and raised here, those whose work is rooted in the city’s history, neighborhoods, and cultural traditions, while also welcoming those who have made Detroit their home. Together, they affirm the city not just as a place for survival, but as a space for building, contributing, and thriving through creative practice.
This exhibition is presented by DETROIT SALON, a new contemporary arts initiative that celebrates Detroit art and culture worldwide through a global exhibition platform and a landmark art event based in Detroit.
Detroit: A Home for Makers amplifies DETROIT SALON's mission by showcasing artists who view Detroit as their creative foundation—whether lifelong residents or newcomers—reinforcing the city’s identity as a vibrant, dynamic center for artistic innovation. It echoes DETROIT SALON’s commitment to uplifting a broad spectrum of creative perspectives across disciplines, acknowledging both established and emerging artists, and fostering an inclusive narrative about who shapes Detroit’s cultural scene.
