Talks Program | New Models of Cultural Diplomacy: The Soft Power of Artists

Tuesday, October 21, 2025

11:00am - 12:00pm

Hôtel de Talleyrand
2 rue Saint-Florentin, 75001 Paris, France

New models of cultural diplomacy are shifting the terrain. France has launched an innovative decentralized model in the United States through Villa Albertine to support artists. The British Council has long championed a model of public private partnership. The United States executes cultural programs primarily through its embassies and cultural centers. DETROIT SALON introduces a new subnational model, leveraging city and state partners and institutions to support artists in the absence of formal federal cultural diplomacy structures.

As cultural institutions face scrutiny and pressure to adapt, how are cultural organizations harnessing the soft power of artists to shape dialogue with other countries and cultures? Hear from representatives of different national entities on how they are using cultural diplomacy intheir work, and why artists are critical cultural ambassadors.
